Oh, By the Way

If you ever build a new house, or just put up new walls in the old one, please don't just slap wallpaper directly on the drywall. Please, prime the walls. And use sizing of some kind under the wallpaper. Also, if you ever decide to put in new wallpaper, don't just slap it directly over the old wallpaper. Strip the old first. Or at least use sizing between the layers. Furthermore, when you put up new wallpaper, don't just butt the edges against each other and try to compensate by using lots and lots of extra paste. Because sooner or later, somebody's going to want to strip the cheeseball southwestern themed wallpaper you put up.

I tell you these things for your proetection. Because if you don't follow this advice, the next person who owns your house might well be consumed with the desire to find you, drag you screaming from your house, and make you fix the walls. And on that day, you will wish you had listened to my advice.

I'm just saying...

  • gee, that sounds like fun. What a shame I'm nearly a thousand miles away. Enjoy the wallpapering!

  • Steve -- if you wanted, we could save you some for when you visit next!

There's still one bathroom to rid of southwestern prints, plus the circus-theme border in the office. I'm sure you'd just *love* to take care of those!

  • Heck, if you're feeling really ambitious, I could let you handle the paint-over-paint-over-wallpaper border-over-paint-over-wallpaper situation in the guest room...
